Apple iPhone 5

The most awaited phone today is the Apple iPhone 5… Well! Every next generation Apple product becomes the most awaited device on the planet. The most promising speculations right now are being summarised in this small post.

1) The new new iPhone would have a sleeker form factor  - My opinion – The iPad 3 did not, so I really doubt if its likely with the other possible features in the new iPhone.

2) The iPhone 5 would have 4GLTE connectivity – thats pretty believable

3) It would have a quad core A6 processor – Hmmm! Quite likely

4) A better cam?? Dont really know

5) A bigger screen….. now all you idiots who keep speculating about the iPhone having a bigger screen, get this… the Apple apps platform is a sweet standardised platform so all Apps can be run on a standard sized screen, why would Apple want to screw that up??!!

and if the iPhone 5 does look like the 4 or 4S, that is going to totally suck…. and has history has told us, no matter how much a new Apple product is hated… it still sells like crazy…..

Sony Tablet P

We all agree that Sony arrived late to the table party, but still managed to bring in some nicely dressed hotties. ‘Nicely dressed’, I’m using here, as a technical term. Talking about the tablet P… its a unique fold able tablet design which would be a good screen protection feature and looks quite like a gaming device on the outside. Looks pretty, and packs the regular hardware juice too. But, one little question, does Sony really want to  mess with a product launch when Apple is so close to the release of the iPad 3 or the iPad HD (as some folks speculate).

I have seen hundreds of articles all over the web about tablets having higher specs and a huge salvo of features against the iPad. I see people criticizing the iPhone 4s for not being a new design, for not having a larger screen and for not being open source. Oh the ‘Open Source’ story, we’ll come that later, maybe in another post.

But people!!! the Apple iPad is what sells the most and as the saying goes, “If you dont have an Apple, you dont have it”, the rest is all just a compromise. So I say wait for the ipad 3 while we talk about the Sony Tablet P feature and specs.

The folding design makes it ultraportable for carrying around in a bag or a purse.. (the purse bit tells me that its gonna be fun for the ladies to carry around). The dual screen (obviously a dual screen, screens dont yet fold) has very thick borders and much lower real estate on the screen part. It runs Android on a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and has  1GB memory, 4GB of internal storage capacity(OOOh 4 gig!!) and a microSD card slot that comes with a 2GB card, though up to 32GB can be supported. Wait… Micro SD?? Hmmm.

5 Meg real cam and a 0.3 meg front cam and Wifi and Bluetooth. And….. that it…. that wraps up all the sexy features the Tablet P has (sarcasm).

The Tablet P is prices between 400-500 $  - another mistake and this Tablet, if you may, is a perfect example of a consumer product that will be released – Obsolete :)

So thats the reason Nokia lagged behind in the smart phone race, they were busy making a monster sensor camera, for a phone. The post topic, my friends, is no typo, its the Nokia 808, with a 41 Megapixel camera :) . I, kind of, have a smirk on my face when I am writing about this ’cause I feel this is like carrying a giant knife to fight a gun fight. (Its still a knife)

Dear Nokia, you kind of missed the point!! You were supposed to work on the OS, interface and a little on the cam, not go Gung-Ho on the cam and I am quite sure you priced it the way Indians expect to sell their 20 year old car for. (for those who don’t gather – its ‘high’)

Lets talk specs – 4 inches screen, 16:9 nHD (640 x 360 pixels) AMOLED resolution with 16.7 million colors.

It has a 16 Gig internal memory (curb the excitement there fellas, when a 10 Meg cam clicks 5 MB  pics, you can only imagine what this snapper must be swallowing for 1 click), and a support for 48 Gig MicroSD – thats more like it.

The processor is a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 and the OS running is a Nokia Belle OS (Symbian) I wonder if Nokia is aware that Symbian is going to sink it….

Bottomline – In my opinion, the 41 meg is the beginning and the end of the awesomeness of this phone. The rest is all the same old pile of gizzmogarbage.

Sorry Nokia, I think you suck.

The Apple iPhone 4S

No, this is not a typical post on the features, price and the other BS.

This is my first hand view. I am a die hard Apple fan and the biggest “Screw you Android” guy you can find. I use a Mac, iPad, a 3GS till a few days ago and now I upgraded to the 4S. The speed, interface and the graphics on the 4S are a real delight and the camera performs superb. Excellent exposure, colors and image sharpness. The video quality on high def is amazing and it really eliminates the need for a point and shoot where you would it very cumbersome to carry an SLR.

Over to the other side, talking about the battery back – it goes from ’100% – Nice! to WTF – 23% from morning till evening. I understand that smartphones are not the right candidates to benchmark for a battery backup but this phone has messed me up completely and running to a charger every evening is not at all a pleasure.

A wonderful feature that the lower gen iPhones had the sweet 3G – on-off toggle switch and I would put it on only when needed getting the best amount of juice from my phone possible. A brief background on why this is important. I am a resident of India where 3G is still in its adoption stage and a good 3G signal is not available everywhere and the 4S constantly struggles to find it (it does not off a 3G on-off switch) this really messes things up and there are times when I want to do the same thing to the phone, that some guys do on ‘Youtube’. “Shooting at the phone with a high caliber rifle”….. What?! you havent seen that video… oh! its a must see.

Dear Apple! your innovations are amazing, the interface and OS are worth licking, the ease of use is remarkable, but your design team member to eliminate the 3G switch is a moron and no one likes it that, that little piece of control is gone.

My wife uses a 4S too, but she does not have any battery issues, so I guess its not a phone flaw, maybe some app… but what the hell. In my country an iPhone costs a $1000 and Indians have to spend that much to get the warranty since International warranty does not apply here…. being an Apple fan in India is indeed a difficult life….. but again “Screw you Android”

Sony Playstation Vita

Sony’s new portable gaming device, which was due and anticipated for a pretty long time now, has finally arrived. I had written a post about it earlier too, when it was announced as the NGP, Next Gen PSP. The specifications remain the sam as informed earlier and it has been released with the name “Vita” meaning “Life” in latin. Sony is having positive feelings about this gadget as it already breaks Nintendo 3DS specs.

Sony Playstation Vita runs on ARM Cortex A9 (4 core) CPU, fires up a mighty SGX543MP4+ GPU, has a 5″ OLED touchscreen display, six-axis motion sensing system, front and rear facing cameras, two joysticks and to top it all off, has a touchpad on the rear too

The Vita, comes in two variants, the Wi-FI model and the Wi-Fi + 3G model, supports HSDPA and has a front and real camera, to name a few features.

Detailed specifications, click here

The Vita is priced at $249 for  the Wi-Fi model and 300$ for the 3G model. And yes, it looks like tough fight for the Nintendo 3DS.

SpareOne Phone

The SpareOne phone by NextOfkin Creatives is a $50 phone that you want want keep lying around the house or in the glove box of your car for any emergency use. The SpareOne runs on a single standard AA battery and it retains its charge for a claimed duration of 15 years.

At the time of use, one AA battery provides a 10 hour talk time. When i googled this phone, I am constantly pounded about the fact that the phone holds its charge for 15 years, but more than that, I am attracted to the fact that it runs on a single AA battery.

And obviously, I am not going to start mentioning things like processor, OS, RAM etc… its total ‘BS’ while we are talking about a device like this one.
